Alternating Current Field Measurement
Alternating Current Field Measurement
ACFM is in use worldwide in almost every industrial sector. It is particularly well used for in-service inspection as an alternative to MT / PT . ACFM is ideal for crack detection at welds, through coatings and has the added advantage of producing crack depth information. Therefore ACFM can provide cost benefits over conventional surface testing methods such as MT/PT where the removal of coatings and re-application is costly.
IRISNDT uses the AMIGO Crack Microgauge system manufactured by TSC Inspection Systems, this is a rugged site inspection system rated to IP54. Operators are qualified to CSWIP requirements and carry out inspection to TSC operating procedures and the requirements of ASME V Article 15 where required.
Typical structures that are inspected with ACFM include cranes, bridges, theme park rides and lamp-posts. Ships offer many opportunities for ACFM inspection. The ability of ACFM to inspect through paint, and even underwater, mean that ship hulls can be inspected without having to enter dry-dock. Many components in the petrochemical industry are coated either in paint, lagging or more exotic materials such as zinc or fire protection materials
