  5. Ditch Talks – Taking Care of Pipelines

After non-destructive pipeline In-line Inspections (ILI) are completed, numerous further ditch tests follow. These ditch tests are used to validate and refine the ILI findings. The top left image shows an IRISNDT inspector performing Ultrasonic testing (UT) to verify and refine the ILI depth assessment of an inside surface pit. The top right image shows one of the pits found (the image was prepared after the pipe was cut and media blasted). The bottom image shows a laser scan performed to efficiently quantify external corrosion metal loss. More about these laser inspections in Pipeline-Integrity-Laser-Scanning.pdf

From the ditch and from offices, a great deal of effort and resources go into preventing leaks and failures in pressurized equipment.
