Fillet Fracture Testing
Fillet Fracture Testing
Equipment: Tensile Testing Machine, used in compression.
Testing is carried out using standards:
- BS EN 1320
- ASME IX
Tests are performed most commonly on Fillet Welds in Plate and Pipe. The weld metal has a notch cut into the centre line of the cap to encourage the specimen to fracture. Test specimens are fractured longitudinally with the root of the weld in tension. The fracture length is 100mm/4˝, the internal surface of the weld body is visually examined for flaws, to aid this a x5 magnification eye loupe may be used.
