IRISNDT is a successful blend of forward looking NDT and engineering companies providing a broad range of inspection, testing, engineering, heat treatment and software services to the process industries. The company is run both by the founders of the original, individual companies and technical managers active in the field.
Our managers work directly with our customers and keep abreast of developing technology. This is fundamental to our reputation for quality and customer service and an outstanding safety record. We also look after our employees. Our business is built on credibility and reputation, only achievable by retaining long-term employees. In a very real sense, our product is our people. Taking care of our people and their families is what we do because we depend on each other to do our jobs well and safely.
Established in 1953 in Edmonton, Canada, IRISNDT is a global company providing quality NDT & Engineering services through an extensive branch network in Australia, the USA, Canada, and the UK.
UK operations started in 2006 with the Stockton on Tees based specialist NDT services branch, Matrix Inspection. This new company provided automated UT testing, guided wave ultrasonics and acoustic emission testing services. Adding the broader range and depth of NDT and laboratory services of Immingham based SPI-NDT in 2010 greatly improved the depth and scope of our services.
Like IRISNDT, SPI started out with radiographic testing in 1987 and developed into a broadly based NDT services company. This included achievement of ISO-9001 certification for its NDT and mechanical testing services. By 2007, SPI was a medium to large third party inspection company carrying out major projects for leading UK main contractors and end users. A new purpose built facility in Immingham boasted three radiography bays, a new larger electro-furnace and mechanical testing laboratory. These were served by a five tonne overhead crane and generous yard space for transport and handling of larger assemblies.
By this time the company had also branched out into ship surveys with the acquisition of Ultrarad Technical Services Hull Ltd holding certificates from ABS, BV, DNV, GL, NK Lloyds and RINA. This operation now includes storage tank and pipeline inspection under the EEMUA and API standards.
The 2010 merger with IRISNDT included the heat treatment services of Thermal Technologies. This new company, SPI-Matrix, boasted a range of NDT services that few could rival backed by the considerable resources of the Canadian parent company.
The much larger operation, now including rope access services, combined with customer demand meant further upgrading of the quality management system to meet the BS EN ISO-17020 standard. UKAS accreditation was achieved in 2012.
Incorporation of Thermal Technologies Inc. allowed creation of a broader range of heat treatment services. This included expansion of the existing workshop heat treatment ovens and addition site heat treatment and bolting services. These services achieved accreditation to BS EN ISO 9001: 2008 within six months of their inception.
Further growth was achieved by acquisition of the NDT and Heat Treatment business of Assured Inspection Services in 2011. This added the bases in Chatham and Pembroke to the existing Stockton on Tees, Hull and Immingham locations as well as Assured’s expertise and experience in the power industry.
September 2014 saw the opening of a new, much larger main office and test facilities in Immingham and adoption of the parent company name: IRISNDT Limited. The 36,000 ft2 [3345m2] building complex houses X-radiography bays, heat treatment ovens, machine shop and mechanical testing laboratory. The largest radiography bay is 14m long. This complemented by a 10 tonne crane (to be upgraded to 20) and 14m heat treatment oven makes it the largest facility of its kind in the region.
More recently, in May 2015, IRISNDT acquired the NDT and Heat Treatment business of QA NDE. This Ellesmere Port branch office gives the company its 6th operating location.
Beyond the new facilities, IRISNDT continues development of both the existing NDT and specialist services. This includes training and development of personnel, adding state of the art equipment and new technologies such as 3D Laser Scanning, Digital Radiography, high temperature guided wave testing and optical emission spectrometry for materials analysis.
